Mayor hosts Gala Banquet for her chosen charities

Fabulous fundraising evening held in the Royal Pavilion

The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Alexandra Phillips, hosted a sell-out fundraising Gala Dinner in the Royal Pavilion Banqueting Room on Friday 27th September for ten of her twenty chosen charities.

Among the attendees were supporters of each charity, representatives from the charities themselves and members of the general public who were invited by the Mayor. Many noted the ‘hint of gold’ dress code with style! The evening is expected to raise well over £12,000 for charity when all donations are received.

The dinner involved an auction with top items including seven nights in Cape Verde; VIP access to The Big Cheer; high tea with the Mayor in the Mayor’s Parlour. There was also a raffle and a bottle tombola.

Presiding over the fundraising with good humour and gusto were Guest Auctioneer Nicky Davin and MC Karl Jones, the Director of local restaurant Moshimo. Karl also generously wined and dined the guests.

Local harpist and recent Lancing College graduate, 18-year old Megan Johns, welcomed guests with beautiful music.

These charities are often a lifeline for people in need and the work that they do for the City of Brighton & Hove is indispensable.

stated the Mayor, explaining the importance of supporting local charities.

Every year the newly elected Mayor selects chosen charities for their tenure, with this year’s selection of twenty charities focusing on support for women and children. The variety of services  demonstrates the Mayor’s wish to bring together a wide range of causes to promote awareness of their work, raise funds and build connections between the services. Ten of the charities that Alexandra Phillips selected have worked alongside the Mayor to organise the dinner, these were: Amaze; Brighton Women’s Centre; Cruse Brighton & Hove; Extratime; Oasis Project; Parent Carer’s Council; Survivors’ Network; Sussex Nightstop; Sustrans; and Whoopsadaisy.
