Children and Young People’s Therapy Service

Therapy at Survivors’ Network is a space for young people who want support with the impact of sexual violence. It’s a little different from general counselling because our therapists are specially trained in trauma and in working with young people, so the support is tailored to these experiences.

It’s important to know that therapy isn’t always the right fit straight away. It works best when you feel ready, at your own pace, to bring some of your experiences into the space. If you’re looking for more general support with life or wellbeing, our Peer Support Groups or Finding Balance programme may be a better place to start.

Making Therapy Accessible

Throughout your therapy journey, you’ll regularly reflect on your progress with your therapist to make sure therapy continues to be the right support for you.

Therapy is available for:

  • Young people aged 14–17.5
  • Young people living in East Sussex or Brighton & Hove
  • Survivors of sexual violence who have experienced contact offences

Therapy is usually longer-term, offering up to around 24 sessions, which may take up to a year to complete. Sessions are gentle and paced around you.

Our therapists use different approaches, including:

  • Talking and play-based therapy
  • Creative, art-based therapy
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), where appropriate

Things to Know

Because this is a specialist service, therapy spaces are limited and there may be a waiting list. We don’t automatically offer therapy to everyone, but we’ll always help you find the support that’s right for you.

To get the most from therapy, it’s important to attend sessions regularly. If several sessions are missed without contact, we may need to close your therapy space, but we’ll always try to discuss this with you first.

Therapy can be incredibly helpful, but it’s not the only option—and it’s okay if it isn’t what you need right now. We’re here to support you in a way that feels safe, manageable and right for you, wherever you’re at.
