Finding Balance - One-to-one therapeutically focused sessions for young survivors

Finding Balance is a one-to-one, therapeutically focused programme for young survivors aged 14–17.5 across Sussex. Sessions are available in Brighton, Hastings and Eastbourne.

Finding Balance is a gentle, short-term, one-to-one programme for young survivors who may not feel ready for trauma therapy, or who would benefit from support with things like anxiety, low mood, sleep or flashbacks. You don’t need to talk about your experiences before you’re ready. Together, we’ll explore practical tools and coping strategies to help you feel safer, more grounded, and better able to navigate everyday life at your own pace. It’s all about building a toolkit that works for you.

What are the Finding Balance sessions?

Sessions are relaxed, supportive, and focused on what you need. You don’t have to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.

Together, we’ll explore things like:

  • Sleep, anxiety, low mood, or flashbacks
  • How trauma can show up in everyday life
  • Ways to manage overwhelming thoughts and feelings

The focus is on building a “toolkit” of strategies that work for you.

You might look at things like:

  • What am I carrying? – exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and what you might want to let go of.
  • Where does my body feel stress? – noticing physical signs of anxiety or tension.
  • How does my brain respond? – understanding trauma in a simple, accessible way.

We also explore triggers, calming techniques, and ways to move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling more grounded.

A Flexible, Supportive Space

Finding Balance is all about meeting you where you’re at. You don’t need to go into detail about your experiences if you don’t want to. The aim is to help you feel more steady, more supported, and to leave with tools you can use in everyday life, whatever that looks like for you.

Activities

Sessions include a mix of creative, practical, and reflective activities to help you learn in a way that feels right for you. This might include drawing, visualising, or trying grounding and calming exercises.

Everything is optional, and you can take things at your own pace.
