It’s already been a busy year with Sexual Violence Awareness Week and LGBTQ History Month in February, and coming up on the 8th of March we will also be marking International Women’s Day.
Sexual violence can and does happen to anyone regardless of who they are, but statistics reveal that it is predominantly a gendered offence, mainly affecting people of marginalised genders. We also know perpetrators mostly target people due to misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and fatphobia, as sexual violence is reflective of the discrimination within our society.
It’s a fair question to ask: why do we still need to tell people this isn’t okay? Why are we still fighting for survivors to be heard? We want to continue these important conversations and find out more about why sexual violence is so pervasive across different areas of life, and what’s being done about it.
We believe that addressing this issue should not be the sole responsibility of survivors of sexual violence, but of society as a whole – and change starts with learning.
Come along for the opportunity to ask questions in a non-judgmental and welcoming space.
Ticket sales go directly towards funding crucial support services for survivors of sexual violence and abuse.
